The Priority Appeal
Help transform the everyday in your local NHS. Our Priority Appeal allows us to support any area of our hospitals or community services that are in most need.
East Cheshire NHS Charity goes above and beyond standard Government funding to make your local NHS that extra special, whether a long stay patient needs something extra to make them feel at home or when our staff need wellbeing support, you can help us be there for them.
Supporting our Priority Appeal means we can continue to support the most urgent needs of our services, as well as helping to provide services that go above and beyond standard Government NHS funding.

End of Life
The time after someone has died can be incredibly difficult for loved ones, therefore it’s essential that they are supported as much as possible prior to and after their loved ones death.
Care and memory packs will allow us to create a person centred care approach, emphasizing personhood after death, which will support the mental wellbeing of relatives.
Family members will keep these memories with them forever, which can have a big impact on the rest of their lives. We would like to offer comfort to as many people as possible and your support can help us to do this.
With the support of the East Cheshire Charity and donations from the public the End of Life Care team at East Cheshire NHS Trust will have access to resources that can be offered to patients and their loved ones at this sad and difficult time. These resources will help to provide individualised, unique care to the patients and their loved ones and help to make positive lasting memories.
- Supporting you and those that you love at this difficult time.
- Creating a culture within the hospital that prioritises end of life and bereavement care.
- Providing individualised care at the end of life and after death.
- Consistent standards for end of life and bereavement care across the hospital.
Ward 9
Ward 9 is an acute care of the elderly ward specialising in dementia at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
The ward aims to enhance patient wellbeing, promote independence, reduce distress and anxiety to help people live well with dementia.
A dedicated Activities Coordinator provides meaningful activities for patients living with dementia as part of their treatment and recovery, and we are looking to raise funds to provide more activities and equipment that our patients can use and enjoy, alongside creating a dementia friendly garden which will provide a therapeutic space and safe social environment.

Testimonials
“Macclesfield Annual Pancake Day Race is a blast. It’s brilliant to see people get together, have fun and raise money for East Cheshire NHS Charity. Don’t miss out, get your team together for next year’s race, which will be bigger and better.”
Paul Crone
Granada TV Presenter
“We have a homely, community feel, and our smaller size means we can concentrate on what matters most – the wellbeing of patients, visitors and staff. The charity has recently funded wellbeing rooms for visitors and staff, which really gave the hospital a more personal touch. The charity has a bit more freedom to be creative and make things feel more homely compared to NHS funds, which has a huge positive impact on visitors and staff.”
Sarah Hayes
Senior Sister, Macclesfield District General Hospital Critical Care Unit
“The last 30 years playing my accordion has been an incredible and wonderful experience, having made so many friends, both with the hospital staff and the general public, who through their support and generosity have enabled me to keep raising money for East Cheshire NHS Charity and other local causes. On a personal level I’m very grateful to the NHS staff, who over the years have looked after myself and my wife June who sadly passed away in 2020. It has been a privilege to be a hospital volunteer for all these years, and l still get a great deal of pleasure by playing my music for hospital staff and visitors – I can’t imagine life without it.”
John Jones MBE
Macclesfield NHS fundraiser
“We pride ourselves on being a smaller organisation – we call it our East Cheshire NHS Trust family. We employ a lot of people from the local area and support a lot of local people too, so community and family values are really important to us. We know that staff wellbeing is intrinsically linked to good quality patient care, so the money raised by East Cheshire NHS Charity makes a huge difference when it comes to supporting everyone in the local area, whether it be patients, families or staff.”
Ruth Knighton
Workforce Transformation Lead, East Cheshire NHS Trust
“It’s a privilege to be able to support such a worthy cause and use our radio station to spread the word and get as many people involved as possible. Every penny raised makes such a difference.”
Darren Antrobus
Presenter at Silk FM
“Every penny we receive truly makes a difference. Our Priority Appeal is in place to enable us to channel donations we receive to the areas that need it most. We cannot thank you enough for your fundraising – we could not do what we do without you.”
