Seven new neonatal cots have been donated to the maternity ward at Macclesfield Hospital, thanks to a generous donation from children’s charity MedEquip4Kids.

The cots, which provide a safe environment for parents to place their new arrivals in at their bedside, were donated in time for the reopening of the service in June 2023.

Each baby born on the ward needs a cot to maintain sleep safety, with the donated cots also providing storage space underneath for storing relevant medical equipment and records.

Emma Galsworthy, Deputy Head of Midwifery at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “It was really lovely to have the new cots for when we reopened back in June 2023 and to see babies being delivered once again in Macclesfield Hospital.

“The cots not only look new and modern compared to what we had previously, but they also provide the women with a safe environment to place their newborn in at their bedside.”

Children’s charity, MedEquip4Kids improves the health and wellbeing of babies and children in the UK by providing equipment and facilities not available from limited NHS resources.

Evelyn Glarvey, Projects Co-ordinator at MedEquip4Kids said: “Improving the patient experience is a key part of our remit at MedEquip4Kids, so we were delighted to be able to provide these neo natal cots for Macclesfield District General Hospital.

“It’s fantastic to see new mums and babies benefiting from the new equipment, which is contributing to a safe and comfortable environment in the maternity unit. We’d like to say a special thank you to all the donors who helped us make this possible.”
