A former patient’s inspiring initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Breast Care Unit at Macclesfield Hospital has raised over £59,000.
Gena Moors’ phenomenal fundraising efforts started in 2023 with the creation of ‘Splash of Pink’ which was established as a thank you for the care she received at the hospital following the diagnosis of breast cancer in 2020.
Monies have been raised thanks to a number of events including two Splash of Pink Breast Cancer Balls with the mother of two aiming to raise £50,000 to purchase a lifesaving piece of equipment for the unit, above and beyond what the NHS funds.
Gena said: “Raising awareness and funds for the Breast Care Unit at Macclesfield Hospital has been an incredibly rewarding journey and the support and generosity from everyone involved in ‘Splash of Pink’ has been overwhelming.
“This cause has been my way of giving back and ensuring that others receive the same exceptional care that I did.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this cause, the ultrasound machine we want to buy with this money will help save lives.”
East Cheshire NHS Trust’s Chief Executive, Ged Murphy, added: “East Cheshire NHS Charity is really special and a lot of amazing people, both staff and patients, do some great work to fundraise; and Gena is one of those people.
“We know the money will be put to good use and we can’t thank her enough, it is a remarkable achievement and a big thank you to everyone who has supported Gena through the journey to get to this point.”
