The generosity of a Cheshire family is set to fund much needed equipment for babies and their families, on the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
The generous donation, of £9,598 is the second made by The Georgia Leigh Ogden Foundation, which donated £4,660 in 2023 to the East Cheshire NHS Charity.
That gift supported the Children’s Ward by funding parents’ beds, arts and crafts supplies, toys, DVD players, headphones, two Pulse Oximeter monitors, and a new football table.
The Foundation was established in memory of Georgia Ogden, who tragically lost her life in a road traffic collision in Congleton in 2020. It was established by Georgia’s parents, Mandy and Mark Ogden, and her brother, Josh, to honour Georgia’s life and create a lasting legacy in her name.
Mandy, who has worked at Macclesfield Hospital for 17 years, including seven years in the Gastroenterology department, said: “We established the foundation to try and help ease some of the pain of losing Georgia, and turn something so tragic into something positive.
“By doing this we’re helping to keep Georgia’s memory alive, by trying to make a difference where it matters, just as she did in her life.
“Georgia was looked after a lot on the Children’s Ward when she was younger, so it feels right to donate to the hospital’s charity. And we’re looking to further support the ward in the future by funding a new mural for their Bluebell Suite.”
This significant donation will help fund the purchase of vital equipment, including new breast pumps and a video laryngoscope, enabling staff to continue delivering the highest level of care to some of the hospital’s tiniest and most vulnerable patients.
Rachel Bellingham, SCBU Manager at Macclesfield Hospital, said: “We’re incredibly touched by this generous second donation from The Georgia Leigh Ogden Foundation, which takes their support for us to an amazing total of £14,258.
“The equipment it will fund is essential in helping us provide safe, effective, and compassionate care for our babies and their families. On behalf of the whole SCBU team, I want to say a heartfelt thank you. Georgia’s legacy will live on through the difference this support makes every day.”
